People drowned in their homes. I’ve never heard of such a thing in NYC.

At least nine New Yorkers, including a 2-year-old boy and an 86-year-old woman, were killed as fast-moving rains from the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida pounded the city, sparking catastrophic flooding, police said Thursday.

All but one of the victims were in basement apartments when they were trapped by rising flood waters between 10 p.m. and midnight Wednesday, authorities said.

The youngest was a 2-year-old boy found dead inside a home on 64th St. near Laurel Hill Blvd. in Woodside, Queens, about 10 p.m. The child’s 50-year-old dad and 48-year-old mom also died in the flooded basement pad.

Local news overhypes just about every potential storm. Yet they said little about Ida until yesterday afternoon.

I also think local government should invest more in improving the 3rd world infrastructure around here rather than spending on social justice.

its horrible, Most basement apartments are illegal, Most if any don't have egress windows or they have widows with bars so you can't climb out.

I heard about the hype when Henri was on the way, which ended up being nothing here in NY. But with Ida, there wasn't much of a warning. In fact, our stupid mayor and governor declared the state of emergency AFTER we started getting pounded by the immense rain, rather than before. I mean, 'sup with that?!

In Houston we learned around 2015 not to take any storm lightly. I guess even the Northeast is going to have to start doing the same. Storms are tricky now with climate change, they may seem like nothing, but they can blow up quickly.

Queens Blvd traffic was completely backed up this morning in the Manhattan direction.

There is still no subway service at any of subway stations under Queens Blvd.

Gosh, why can't people just stay home right now? People are nuts!
