Wait, so can I mask up, hat, and just grab what I want and leave? There is nothing I can possibly need in Rite Aid.
Those Milk Thistle vitamins can add up yo.

There was a poster in one of the Alvin Bragg threads who basically posted that criminals don't read papers are follow the news, so they wouldn't know about the lax prosecution.

This is according to the article:

"Left-wing US Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), whose district includes part of the Bronx and Queens, has downplayed both the shoplifting crisis in Manhattan as well as organized smash-and-grab retail theft groups in California’s Bay Area.

“Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren’t paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent and so they go out and they need to feed their child and they don’t have money so … they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry,” she said last year. "

I detest this woman. What a POS. She's basically encouraging people to steal, rob and loot because they can't pay their rent instead of encouraging them to go to school, get an education and get a better paying job. What has this world come to?

I could be wrong, but I don't think the average person who falls on hard times is just suddenly going to resort to a life of crime. My belief is that most of these brazen shoplifting incidents (I am specifically referring to the drugstores like Rite Aid, Duane Reade, Walgreens) are being commited by people who recently came here from other locales. Most likely they were already destitute in their previous location.

How did you arrive at your “belief?”

I find it hard to “believe” that people would move to expensive NYC just to rob drug stores.

Reading the news. When they apprehend the criminals, some of them were not from NYC. These people aren't exactly moving to NYC, they come here and live on the streets. Hence some of what you see in Midtown. No surprise that majority of this crap is happening in a neighborhood that is home to an interstate bus terminal.

But... why come here just to live on the streets? It's not like we have fabulous weather. Why are the destitute and homeless coming here of all places...
