You know how long it's been since I've been in that one? At least seven or eight years now. Used to be in my regular rotation, but it became overcrowded and the lines too long.

They can't. I love buying the organic honeycrisp apples (they usually get them from Washington State) in Whole Foods. They are very juicy and flavorful and usually go in my salads more times than not. They are definitely one of the most expensive apples that they carry. I don't buy conventional or anything else. Disgusting, especially since they put wax or whatever else on them.

I just have them weighed and put in an apple. I'm not looking to see if what I input is the organic honeycrisp option. I put in fuji or pink lady apple, which while good, are not nearly as tasty and are definitely cheaper as a result, but we're talking about a few cents. With the thousands I spend in that place, they can kick rocks. I also don't pay for bags. Usually, I carry a nice big reusable tote bag with me (managed to find an American made one that I bought several of for easy replacing, so it holds a lot), but if I need a bag or two, I just take them because they are supposed to credit you $0.10 cents if bring your own bag, but they don't when you use checkout.

Stores usually have attendants in the area who might see what you are doing and there are probably video cameras in the machine itself. The self checkouts at Home Depot have video cameras and a monitor where you can actually see yourself at the machine.

Uh huh but in Home Depot, they aren't hovering over you. Same with every place else where I use them. Now when I go to Target and need some basic like bottled water or something, I already have a bag with me so I take advantage of the bag discount there. Max you can claim you need is four and then say you have your own bags. Gets you $0.20 off of your purchase.

I appreciate having the option of both. I think checkout with cashiers can be especially helpful with a large number of items, but if I have only one or a few items then it's a lot faster and easier to do self-checkout.

I was in the Whole Foods in Bryant Park this morning and noticed a sizable amount of people opting for checkout over a cashier, myself included, since there was no line.

I agree. It would become overwhelming otherwise but since I don't have a car I always buy a few items anyway. Yeah, it's a pain but I just make it a part of my daily treks. I wonder why Duane Reade doesn't have them yet but the way things have been going, may be they won't be around for that much longer.

Hmmm, what was that code on the Portuguese Roll?

And the apple's sticker fell off.

Make no mistake there are layers of security with self checkout, more so with larger places like Home Depot and so forth.

People have gotten busted for say scanning one item but putting two or three in bag. Scanning lower priced item but putting higher in bag, etc....

Yes, obviously some do get away with things, but those who are caught are shocked camera footage or whatever evidence comes up at time of arrest or arraignment showing not only what went down, but they've done it before.

This being said HD and other places are upping their game.
