I know Fedoroff is one of the best ones, but it’s in Brooklyn.
Can anyone recommend a good spot in the city?
Looking for hidden gem.
I’m seeking quality more than anything.
I always think of Shortys when I want a great cheesesteak. Used to get it for lunch pre-pandemic. They bring the bread from Philly each day. Used to go to their Madison / 26th st and UES locations but i googled it and both are gone now. They have other ones too.
If you like to kick it up a notch, I can say great things about their buffalo chicken cheesesteaks mixed with either ranch or blue. this was my usual go to but the regular cheesesteaks with whiz are great.
If you’re sitting down, have a cold beer and enjoy. https://www.shortysnyc.com/index.php

Shortys is the best option right now. I also heard Wogies is good as well.
Tony Lukes in downtown brooklyn was phenomenal before they had the fire
Before they shut down back in the day Philly Slims on 9th ave around 52nd st was good
Easy - head to 34th and 8th, walk down the stairs twice til you get to the platform and get on the train that says "Philadelphia" and when you get off ask the cab driver to take you to Pat's

Funny you say that. Over the years there was a number of times we woke up and said let’s take a drive to Philly for a cheesesteak. We love drives so any excuse to hit the road and explore is good enough.last time we had Dellesandros. We also like to explore the city whenever such trip happens.
Problem with Philly is, as good as the history and architecture the city has, it feels so depressing for some reason. That was last year.
We have done a few drives to Portland for lobster rolls in a same manner, but those trips were a bit more pre planned. Hell, me and wife (gf back then) used to drive to Montreal every time I bought a car, to test it out and see how it does, check the rear end for stress factors. Haven’t done that in a decade since kids were born. 87 past Lake George is very pretty and you can hit 100-125 in some of the parts it’s so empty. Haven’t done those speeds in a long time as well and probably never will.
