Two words... Park Slope. This area is jam packed with more Lesbians pushing strollers around than straight couples. Visit on a weekend and go down to 7th ave. This is a very gay-friendly neighborhood. Take a walk on 7th avenue on a Sunday or 5th avenue and you will love it.
Also, if Park Slope is too pricey, you can try Windsor Terrace (the residential neighborhood right next to Park Slope). That's where I live. 3-bedroom co-ops here go for $500-$600K, the elementary school (P.S. 154) is excellent, and you're a 10-minute walk (or 2-minute drive) to Park Slope. (FWIW, my daughter is 8 and has a friend the same age across the street from us with lesbian parents.)
Long Island wasn't open-minded enough and didn't treat you guys that well? Strange, since my sister is openly gay for the past 10 years on LI and has no problems at all. What area did you live in?
I was going to babysit for this lesbian couple with a son. They lived on the border of Maspeth/Woodside in Queens. That area might be ok.
We live in Port Jeff Station. Where does your sister live?
I would also, suggest the East Village/LES or West Village.
Both have ample GLBT resources and playgrounds/etc for the kids! It all depends on your income!
