A city of 30,000, and its been the most violent city in the state per capita for the past few years.. The area east of 9W especially near the hospital is a complete warzone. Its the worst neighborhood Ive seen in my life.

In terms of most dangerous neighborhood in NY, I think pretty much everybody could agree that it is probably somewhere on the East Side of Buffalo. In terms of city as a whole, I guess Newburgh, although crime rates are obviously taken into account because you really can't accurately compare cities with different populations. It's hard to compare a city of 30K to one of 50K, let alone 260K like Buffalo.

I guess your friends have been slacking considering that neighborhood has one of the highest sex offender per capita rates in New York.

a city that can barely have over 10 murders a year is no war zone.

That's hard to say. The borough of Queens has Far Rockaway, which I unfortunately live ten or less minutes away from... and Bronx is well, the Bronx. Harlem has to be the crappiest place in the country.

Since I actually been to Far Rockaway a few times, there are a lot of ghettos and projects. Stores close VERY early (I believe 3pm-4pm?) and completly closed down too. Cops are everywhere, crack houses, subpar apartment housing {or just downright disgusting}, the Peninsula hospital closed down and graffiti all over the place.

I believe members of the ms13 is there, too. My mother and I are deathly afraid to even drive through it. Very unfortunate.

As for Harlem, I only saw pictures and boy it really gives off a third-world feel.

I'm really suprised no one brought those two places up. Sure they're not cities and located in boroughs, but they're definitely dangerous and ****ty.

Also I never heard of Buffalo being dangerous? That place always came off as boring to me. Then again to be far, I don't know much about Upstate. Just the island and especially the Queens borough near me.

Ah, so these are cities that aren't boroughs of NYC. As for non-NYC and state-wise, I have no idea. But I'm still very suprised that Buffalo is up there.

Nevermind~

The point is, OP asked for city in NY - not borough of NYC, and not neighborhood within a city. So taking every city in the state into account, the simple answer would probably NYC. And since the question was a far too simple question to answer, only a ridiculously simple answer will suffice.

LOL, but then that makes everything more complicated. In total volume of crimes...yes, NYC obviously, but in crime rate, NYC is pretty low. I guess, in terms of entire city, It would be Newburgh, since the land area is so much smaller. Making the entire city closer to the really bad neighborhoods.
