Excellent idea for a revived Twilight Zone like episode or Christmas Special!

Working the day before and after so no time to travel. I will take my dogs on a nice long hike in the morning, call friends, nap. Looking forward to it!

Wrong. The category was extended family AND friends. I am spending it with immediate family and friends, so I picked that one.

I have never spent Christmas with extended family. That is what Thanksgiving is for. It has always been either me and my spouse and/or immediate family and/or friends.

guess I don't see the difference between that and spending time with people more focused on their smart-phones.

Why not take the mrs out to a nice restaurant, then do something special. Doesn't have to be expensive-go look at Christmas decorations.

sounds like you've gotten into a self-imposed rut. Make the holiday special in what ever way you can.

oh-and I will probably take a long walk in the woods on Christmas.

It maybe a tad late but try and book a Christmas cruise. There are lots of activities and lots of unattached people... Who knows next Christmas you may have someone to share your turkey with

I have some mental picture of the sad looking person showing up at the holiday event because he is family but no one really wants him there or has any interest in talking to weird uncle Jack. He may speak out a few times but most of the relatives would ignore him and if he insisted in continuing to talk they would roll their eyes, moan, give each other funny looks and try to shut him off. Merry Christmas!

That's funny! Smart phones were made for this reason for sure. Too bad we didn't have them in the 70's and 80's.
