When my mom died, everyone was supposed to get back the gifts they'd given her over the years. It went well except for some things I'd given her that mysteriously disappeared. Somehow, probably because I paid attention and we would go shopping together occasionally, I knew what she would really like and would get those things as gifts for her.

I let it go, but it did anger me. One thing I got, which I didn't want, were her dishes. They were nice enough but I was trying to downsize. I gave the set to my niece, who really appreciated having something special of her grandmother's.

On the other hand, mom would always ask me what I wanted when she was gone and I couldn't think of anything. Well, she insisted so I finally said, her Bible. I didn't tell anyone but, in the end, no one else wanted her well-used Bible. It's a bit worn and I treasure having it.

Jen, I'm glad you followed your heart in this.

I'm glad you got that Bible and I am also glad I used my instinct. My Aunt is so far away I can't hardly ever do anything nice for her. She LOVES it. It's sitting next to a photo of her grandmother whose name is on the item and one of her mother.
