1. They can watch your apartment and feed your cat while you're away.
2. You can borrow salt or butter or whatever when you find you're out at the last minute while cooking.
3. If your car breaks down and you need to be at work, they can give you a ride.
4. Unless you're a complete sociopath, a good neighbor is a built-in friend.
5. The list goes on and on.

Of course, what they can do for you, you can do for them.
Yeh these really dont apply to me. I dont like to ask people for anything and I never borrow things either. "Never a borrower or lender be" Best advice I think. Most of the time the only focus is: "what you can do for them" So pass on that one.

Oh, aren't you such the tragic figure. The lone wolf. The disdainful outsider, demonstrating contempt for others.

Suit yourself. But life is a banquet. It's a shame you're choosing to starve yourself.

Maybe that kind of response is why some of us choose to be apart from society...

Better to stay thin that way than gorging 'til you explode.

I waited a couple of days to meet our new neighbor, then once we felt he had somewhat gotten settled in, my fiance and I went over and knocked on the door and introduced ourslves! Since then we've all become friends and hang out.

I totally agree. My neighbor, Lloyd, is a great guy. He lives alone and has a small dog for company and that's it. I sometimes go over to visit him and he likes that. He watched my house when I went on vacation to Florida, 4 weeks ago.

Whenever I need a ride to town, he'll give me a ride. He's such a great guy. He also said, "If you can't find a ride back, just call me, I'll be there to pick you up". Isn't that such a great friend or what!!

No i don't do that. And i hate getting those "howdy neighbor, welcome to the neighboorhood visits." Meaning "i don't know you and i need to take a look in your house" whatever
