How do you explain the other 30 states that have all voted the same way? This is not a "southern" thing.

Black churches breaking with the Dems. That demographic is the only reason it passed in California. It's a sad repeat of the oppressed becoming the oppressor so common in our history.

It is, actually, largely a Southern thing (along with the lower Midwest and parts of the Mountain West). Southern states have the most restrictive policies for gays by far. This graphic lays it out pretty nicely.

This was sickening.

If Minnesota and Maine follow suit (ESPECIALLY Maine), I'm done with this country.

I think it's time to end the tax-exemption on churches since they seem intent on acting as political lobbying organizations.

Looks like New Hanover counts as a "for," sigh - by less than 350 votes.

As a NC outsider who routinely travels there on business, I can say passing this amendment was an extraordinarily dumb thing.

To many businesses and workers considering relocation, North Carolina is viewed as an enlightened Southern state. Oxymoronic but true. This combined with tax breaks, decent universities, and QOL make it easy to lure in an educated workforce.

Now NC is viewed as yet another backwards Southern state. The only thing this does is make it tougher to lure in business and qualified employees for the next decade before the Supreme Court inevitably strikes down these amendments. Congrats.

I'm always amused by the people who want to ban gay marriage. Overwhelmingly, it is poorer citizens in Stripmall America who pay virtually nothing in terms of net taxes. So here you have a group of economically parasitic citizens wanting to economically disenfranchise another group of citizens who are basically invisible and comprise <5% of the total population. How classy. Just like in TN, my current residence, this says so much about the IQ's and cultural implosion to be found in Southern rural areas.

Ok, I voted agatnst it. However...

Do you know the difference between puppies and liberals? Puppies stop whining at about 8 weeks. C'mon people, are all of you comatose? There was never ANY evidence this would be defeated. My concious is clear, but I am not the least surprised.

Time for a mimosa, or six. Shall I say, "Bottoms up!"

I wonder how many people who actually voted for this amendment fully understood what it was.

Clearly, not everyone's definition of "progress" is the same.

Also, I can assure you, this was not strictly a "southern", political party, or even an evangelical Christian issue.
