You can compare them if you want, but to make fun of the Panthers by posting a list of the worst year-by-year teams of all time that includes the likes of the Patriots is kinda silly...especially if you don't have an NFL team yourself. The Panthers have played in the Super Bowl in their short history and will again in the future. I guess my point is that people in glass hockey arenas shouldn't throw stones. The NHL is nowhere near as popular as the NFL and never will be, so there's that.

College sports will always be king in NC, so there's that. Even Huffpost knows it

One bank merger is all it would take to topple Charlotte from the #2 slot nationally.

Metrolina CSA 2,493,040 2,375,675 +4.94%
Triangle CSA 2,037,430 1,912,729 +6.52%
not the largest yet
Which would mean Raleigh is still not a global tech hub either, correct? Read what you type before rushing into a reply.

There are no cities "right around Charlotte" to overtake it's position as the second-largest financial center in the United States.

1. New York City - $4.9 trillion in total assets (only including the three largest banks based there)
2. Charlotte - $3.8 trillion (only including the two largest banks based there)

The city closest to Charlotte's numbers is Boston, which is at ~$1.9 trillion. Even factoring in each and every bank in the U.S., New York remains the distant, obvious leader, Charlotte remains the distant, second-largest leader, and Boston remains lacking more than half of Charlotte's total asset numbers. It's really not debatable.

If you need to use the Triangle CSA to have a weak argument against Charlotte's MSA, so be it.

Charlotte: regional financial center, maybe national to some degree, no where near global, sorry

Get your thumb off the scale, lol ! I'm going with what wiki said Waldo's not even top 4 in the US

Charlotte needs 10 MSA counties to top Raleigh's 4 MSA counties. We'll compare CSA's for the apples to apples, that would be 9 Triangle counties to 10 Metrolina countiies and the way the United Nations does it, the global standard for the world: "The U.N. uses areas it calls “urban agglomerations,*” which measure the continuously built-up areas around central cities. It’s a different measure from the Metropolitan Statistical Area used by the U.S. Census Bureau." That's fair, no? Charlatans don't want fair, they can't seem to beat Raleigh without putting their thumbs on the scale

Are you 10?

Poor Raleigh. All of those stable, leading economic sectors with an economy 2x smaller than Charlotte.

Bank of America alone brings more jobs and money to Charlotte than every company with presence in the Research Triangle Park combined.

Yet Charlotte still isn't a blip on anything on a global scale….hmmmm something's just not adding up

The Charlotte echo chamber is getting wobbly!

Interesting note though - as I said, despite the fact Raleigh-Durham wasn't affected by the recession to the extent Charlotte was, both of them combined have yet to surpass Charlotte's economic size.

Charlotte's 5 largest counties alone have more people than the Triangle's five largest counties.

Read up. Read closely. Read carefully.

We can argue all you want, at the end of the day, Charlotte has more people, Charlotte has a larger economy, Charlotte has more tourists, Charlotte has more attractions, Charlotte has more opportunity, Charlotte has continued to lead this thread's poll since it was created eight years ago, and people have actually heard of Charlotte around the world, unlike Raleigh-Durwho. Leech onto your superior education, that's all you've really got. No sports teams, minimal Fortune 500 presence, no amusement/water park, irrelevant museums, minimal mainstream concerts, minimal presence in the national spotlight, no luxury shopping, no vibrant downtown, ect, ect, ect. Oh, and the RTP, can't forget the RTP! Raleigh's largest "tourist" attraction!
