Firefly, new at computer and I just couldn't get this computer to reply to your questions.
We live in Taylrosville now, here in Alexander County and had moved from Naples Florida.
Not sure about the pre-school program in the public schools, but I am 99% sure that they start in kindergarten. My daugher went to a private church pre-school, there are a few good ones.
Someone else posted in your section about Lenoir. Right now the real estate market is dead there, beautiful homes, very close to Boone & blowing Rock, but we decided it was not a good investment, and now having to move, I'm glad we did not have to sell a home there.
Wilkesboro, which I am 15 minutes from is a nice area, but from what I read in the papers and from talking to people, I was not as comfortable with purchasing there either. I go there often though to eat or shop, movies, and it's on our way to Boone and Blowing rock, we also fish there alot as well.
Taylorsville, has it's own "beach" and marina that is quite nice for boating as well.
Granite Falls was my other choice, that is south of Lenoir, but also, we stayed away from that area.
Hickory is a great investment, but it was a little to big for us, we are only 25 minutes to the mall and that bigger town atmosphere, but we opted to live here.
There are some nice areas around Hickory if you want to be just 5-10 minutes away, one that I like is called Mountain View . . . Taylorsville/Alexander county has many nice sections. I live right downtwon like I said on a nice acre of land, and I can walk to the library and stores. Everyone waves and say's hello. Other areas of Alexander County that are nice is Ellendale area, and Sugarloaf area. Also Bethlehem is nice and it's also in Alexander County. We just feel you get alot here for the money, yet it's close to 3 bigger cities. One of them Statesville, I don't care for, but we do shop there alot as well. I food shop here and we have a Walmart, Peebles, a few fast foods, and a great new coffee shop that actually has a website called the Spilled Bean. Other than that, there is a go cart park, an incrediible water park that's small and tucked into the mountains in a rural area, most of the stuff here is recreational. Hiking, archery, horseback riding, fishing, boating, skiing, it's alot of outdoor stuff as the weather is mild too.
We just went to a local farm today and had hay rides, picked pumpkins, learned how to milk a cow . . . all this and I am originally a Brooklyn NY girl, I love it here and hope maybe to be able to move back in the future. We have ahd several offers on our home and I declined them, my husband says I am not really wanting to leave . . . . oh well, such is life.
Sorry, I can't seem to reply to posts and have to keep making a new thread.
To the poster who wanted to know about cable. Charter is our cable company and we have high speed internet here. We are also able to get Vonage phone service, which cuts our costs drastically.
We also have a coffee house called the Spilled Bean that offers wireless internet if you are ever in town and need to use your computer, great pastries and sandwiches as well . . . .
