FWIW, the best baseball towns in the State of NC are Cherryville in western NC...and Greenville in eastern NC. Greenville is also well known for the quality of its softball programs.

Thanks! As long as they have a decent little league I'm fine with it. We can watch our Yankees on tv and go to the local triple A teams.
Aren't there minor baseball league teams throughout the state? Bull Durham movie was about such a team. Minor league in Charlotte I know. Lots of family fun, etc
Nothing like getting close to the players and hearing the crack of the bat.
I think the Charlotte area might be a good fit for you. There are good schools there, too, and it's a very family oriented area with lots of sports fans. You can find museums/theater and sports in both the Charlotte area and the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill), but the Triangle skews a little more academic and museum-y with all the universities and Charlotte skews a little more sporty (with the exception of ACC basketball which is huge in NC) with pro football, pro basketball, etc. There's also the US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, and lots of opportunities for parks and rec type activities in both areas of the state. I'm just feeling Charlotte a little more for you.

Though, Charlotte has 4k+ students in their schools.
For 300k you could probably rent The Vue apartment complex in uptown Charlotte. The Vue is a 50 floor apartment complex. The new tower 210 Trade going to uptown is 55 floors, which would be nice, but since I think you want a suburban place, then Charlotte would be terrible idea. Charlotte is like 95% urbanized.

I don't think an apartment tower will work for us, we have 2 small dogs.
I am also leaning towards the outskirts of Charlotte so far.

This is so wrong it's not even funny. The greater Charlotte area is very suburban.
