What makes a "good town" good and a "bad town" bad? It is all relative to one's needs and expectations. If you're 22 years old and like to party I would not choose Oriental, although if I were a retired sailor, I might. If I'm a Trump fan I might avoid Southport. If you like snow and winter, Asheville. It really depends. Ex-military retiree might like Fayetteville. I'm 72 and like to sail and kayak. I still enjoy a good party and BBQ. I like eating great seafood. I don't like big cities. So that leaves Beaufort, Swansboro, and the area south and including New Bern. Not much crime, good schools, and plenty of maritime activities. And I can always get the best lump crab at Gary's Down East.

There are some cities like Rocky Mount and Kinston that probably wouldn't please anyone. No jobs, high crime, run down areas. I really can't name anything positive about either of those places.

As far as jobs go, CSX recently announced that they're building a massive cargo terminal in Rocky Mount off of US-301, across from NC Wesleyan College, so Rocky Mount could turn around for the better in the future if they play their cards right.

Of course, that does nothing for the crime. Getting rid of the current incompetent Rocky Mount police chief and hiring somebody that takes drug and gang violence seriously and not be in complete denial would be a huge start.

In Kinston, The Neuse Sports Shop and that fancy restaurant on UNCTV. Oh, that trashy, but pretty hot actress is from Kinston. The best thing to come out of Rocky Mount is US-64 East.

The "good faith" 10 point rule should be amended in this case!

Kinston also seems to breed a disproportionate amount of professional athletes for its size.

I just heard about Rocky Mount Mills development. I think it looks really cool, so there's one point for Rocky Mount.
