There I sat, with three - count 'em, three - lanes of northbound traffic swirling around me and two lanes of southbound whizzing by. This being the third time in a month that said vehicle gave me trouble, I managed with the help of the only kind person in a five lane radius to offer to push me out of the roadway. I successfully got it going once again and taking the side streets and failing to stop for those red, octagonal signs (shhhh!), I made it home and vehicle now is parked in the garage where it has been for the last 10 days. If I had a big enough shovel, I'd give 'er a decent burial. I'm currently looking for a replacement and in the meantime, dtr-in-law #5 is playing chauffeur. (She's a peach!)

Since the Old Gray Ghost is 161 in dog years, any little upgrade will be an improvement. Sadly, I don't have a ladder to climb to make some cashola to pay for anything extravagant. But then, I don't do that much driving these days. (Only put 2,490 mi. on last year) So, with any luck, I will find something suitable for what I can pay in the next week. Either that or I gotta get a bus pass!!
I have two old pickups that I drive. One is a 98 and the other an 88. Our car is now 12 years old; an 01. Our car really doesn't have high mileage (only 40,000) and was garage kept.

The problem with ageing vehicles is that they have problems - just like humans. After a decade or so you can have break line failure (my trucks are great at that). Some vehicles have timing belts (like our car). It is recommended that you replace timing belts every six years or (I think) 75,000 miles (whichever comes first). Rust (especially with our salted roads) takes a toll on all metal. Frames start to rust (I just replaced one section on my 98).

But the good part about older vehicles is no car payments or financing! We like that!

Do you have any idea what is wrong with your Old Gray Ghost? Is it possible that you could get it repaired for a reasonable amount? I know that some garages are quick to take you to the cleaners; but I am sure somebody would recommend someone in your area.

But these are personal decisions - only you know the merits or demerits of your vehicle. Anyway; good luck!

Oh, believe me, fish! If there was a way to keep her running, I'd have the car fixed, but it's at the point where it's a hundred here, two hundred there, and the next step would be replacing the fuel pump, which is buried somewhere in there and the labor costs would bury me! It's a 1990 Toyota and it has served me well. I don't take long trips anymore, and I really only use it for the store and doctors appointments. Actually, I never thought I'd outlive it!

My dtr-in-law #5 assures me that she will take me where I want to go, but being dependent on others doesn't sit well with me. I'll get something serviceable and I'll see you down the road.

By the way; I got the job! I get immunized this coming week and start the following week. No more flu program for me - I'm working up the ladder (at least until they decide to put me back in flu). It's better money and we like money! My vehicles were aging and this will help update my fleet!
BRAVO! More capital to invest in our company! I am happy for you and your Mrs.

Oh, I don't envy you. First you have to find that car, then you have to get used to it. There'a nothing worse than driving along and reaching for one of the controls and realizing that you can't find it--or you hit the wrong thing! I've done that.

I think my other half already invested the money; and I did not even make it! Actually she is pretty good and is very frugal. I did not even try to push off buying shares in our chapped arse company! That has to come at just the right moment in time.

Thanks for the well wishes! It will take some time for me to get used to working again. I had a few video games that I did not have time to finish. I guess I can't have everything!

Have a great weekend!

Do you mean S.A. won't let you play your games while you're working?? Some nerve!!

Don't worry, fish, work is just like riding a bike, you'll be fine.

(Pssst! Don't mention the chapped arse thing until your business plan is in place. She might decide to invest in something else)

Have a nice weekend.

Speaking of Fall, and fall foliage, better cover up your remaining veggies tonight, as 3 out of 4 weather reports I've looked at say tonight will be our first frost, and it may be under freezing the next few nights, through the weekend.
I don't know if many of you are railfans, but I went on a 4 day trip the end of last week and got quite a few fall shots in NEPA, including abandoned tunnels, stations, the Tunkhannock and Starrucca viaducts, etc.
So here are these fall views, if you want to virtually join in on the trek:

And then I got some from Upstate NY, some of my old stomping grounds in the 80's (skip this one if you want to skip off-topic pix, LOL)

Frank, they are gorgeous pictures. Thank you so much for sharing, and please don't stay away so long, 'kay?

I don't have any veggies to cover up tonight, except for my patootie, and you can bet I'll be keeping that warm.
