Great point ScranBarre, its the same reason im not involved. Its got the potential, and mission statement i might add, to be a great resource and group but its just not focused the way it should be.

Agreed. I would have LOVED to have joined that organization if it didn't seem like its largest purpose was just to act as an avenue for young singles to get smashed and hook up! If that's what I wanted I would have just gone to Twist.

I envisioned a POWER more along the lines of having a Relay for Life team, doing Bowl For Kids' Sake, volunteering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, helping out with Sister Adrian's annual outreaches to the impoverished, mentoring at-risk youths and speaking at schools about the value of an education, channeling numerous voices into one powerful outlet to serve as a liasion between local young professionals and local elected officials, serve as an opportunity to drive entrepreneurship/white-collar employment growth in the region through seminars, workshops, and exchanges of business ideas, serve as a strong voice to reach out to prospective employers to show off our region's assets, etc., etc.

Instead let's just have a few martinis on the roof of a parking garage and flatulate about how "awesome" and "enlightened" we all are like the South Park "smug" episode!

Well if you liked that quote you'll love this profound statement made by "local talent": "Proven fact: Unless you live near a glacier, you can never have too much ice. That's it. That's the rule. Sorry, no exceptions"

While I may live here I work all over the US both virtually and on business trips. It amazes me as to the fact that some locals are so admired that could not find there way out of a paper bag. This person would not survive more than a week in a larger market area.

Twitter is so lame....Tweeting in Scranton is even worse, Tweeting about Scranton is a joke....Seriously some people need to get a life.

The people around here that think they are elite or special are usually the people that never go anywhere outside the area unless its a vacation to Ocean City Md or a trip to Ireland, maybe a cruise.

Then again there are those that travel around the US that wouldn't survive a few days in foriegn cities or their markets.

That is very ture about the elite or special in this area. I can speak to the fact that I know that this person has traveled outside of the US for vacation and has not done well with the locals. And this person wonders why?

Awful news from this construction site...

Security guard charged in downtown Scranton sexual assault - News - The Times-Tribune (http://scrantontimes.com/news/security_guard_charged_in_downtown_scranton_sexual _assault - broken link)

Crazy, I saw the accused scumbag as I passed the site a couple hours earlier walking home from the bog.

Cue it up: my pride is restored.

How is this a reflection on the developer? It seems to me it is more a reflection on the poor screening of the security company where this man worked. The crime was terrible but Scranton in general and the downtown has an extremely low crime rate compared to other cities.

Sure, that's the right attitude to take when crime spikes: "hey, at least we're not Camden!"

Just a note, the property on the corner of Wyoming and Linden, the former
Markowicz Bros, (I think we were discussing it here, I'm not going back
through 21 pages) has gone from a hole to a hole for sale. Hopefully
someone will decide to develop it in the near future.
