It makes me laugh to think someone would think property values fluctuate like the stock market, and are tied in any way to what people write on this forum.

Imagine the Realtor's report: "Housing prices are up 25% in Sterling at the close of the day; analysts cite a recent flurry of positive reports coming out of City Data Northern Virginia as being the basis for their "buy" recommendation."

Now, back to reality.

You have to know that so many folks are out there plugging their own places all related to selling their property.

LOL, you know someone has run out of arguments when they resort to the old "people must be selling property" chestnut.

The problem with this sort of insinuation is that it doesn't take into account how long all of the people posting on this thread have been on city-data. Take me, for example--I've been a daily poster for 4 years now. Seems like overkill just to sell a house. And four years????? What house in Nova needs four years to sell? Besides, if I sold my house where would I live?

Since this thread hasn't discussed graffiti for several days now and has degenerated into insinuations about other posters, perhaps it's time to close the thread.

I would agree with the last statement above. Staying on-topic will not only extend the life of this thread but also minimize infractions.

Happy Holidays!

Fairfaxguy73.

As much as I've posted about LE and PWC where would you come up with I was a police officer in Front Royal? Forget your Metamucil? I am not an expert on gangs but spent over 30 years on the street dealing with them so I have first hand knowledge. The true experts are our gang unit and gang task force members.

Actually you've just inspired to make my first follow-up post from the original post

I've been reading all the posts, but yet to really see anything interesting come from it. Contrary to other threads I might start on here, where I tend to get very involved and interested

I think what I've generally learned though is that there is a little bit in Arlington on some wall that many people see. A few scattered a bit here and there, but Fairfax County has a task force that takes it down real quick.

In a way, it says volumes. Still an interesting thread though.

If I were to add on the original post, I wonder...generally speaking, when I think of gangs, I think of gangs fighting other gangs. Who are enemies of MS-13? Do they really have them in VA?

I mean, from my understanding, DC has DC Blacks, which is basically existant in the prison system, but not really a drug-dealing presense like other gangs. Thinking of bloods, crips, etc.

For whatever reason, I don't think of MS-13 as a drug-dealing gang. I associate them with a gang that probably came about because of all the LA gangs, especially Mexican Mafia, etc., as a way for Salvadoreans to protect themselves in L.A. neighborhoods.

I am wondering if they are simply in VA because of the fact they are Salvadoreans and got recruited somewhere in either Los Angeles or El Salvador, and pose more as a 'ethnic' hangout group more than anything?

The gangs we have here are more like wannabes. If they had to spend time in the real city, a good number of them would be quaking in their boots. I hear they're around, and every few years you hear of a fight or something--but mostly, unless you're buying drugs, you probably aren't aware of them. The thing to remember is that Nova is suburban. Since you used to live in NYC, it might help to think of it this way: DC is like NYC, but Nova is like Long Island (especially the areas further out on the Island. Think Cold Springs Harbor, Oyster Bay, and parts east).

The Crips and Outlaws motorcycle gang have a presence in VA.
