Just got back a while ago (5:45 or so) from voting here in Arlington, at McKinley Elementary. No line whatsoever. There were just a handful of other voters there. (I'm sure it's busier now.)

Western PWC. My wife got in line at 12:45, took 2 hours. I got in line at 3:30, took 2.5 hours. Crazy. When I lived in MD, the biggest line I ever saw was 5 people in front of me. Crazy! 7 machines, but 1 was broken. We snaked around the entire inside of the school. Must have been between 500 and 1,000 in line. No joke.

My mother just heard on the news that some precincts in Prince William County had reported 4 hour waits in the late afternoon. Wonder why such a high turnout for PWC?

Our Cub Run (Centreville) line was about twice in length of this similar school's line:

but it took only about a half hour to get in line, vote, and leave.

An election worker this evening told me they had all been there since 5 AM! And this is working for no money. And (this election at least) with all kinds of people observing and looking for malfeasance. Major props to the election workers.

Yes indeed! They get a small stipend, around $100 or so, for working all day, 5:00 am to whenever they finish, plus they have to go to training sessions. The Chief and Assistant Chief have additional training. It's an exhausting day full of technical details and dealing with a huge number of people. It's a major public service that doesn't get enough recognition.

At the polling place where I work, we had a line through the building and out the door when we opened. People kept coming and adding to it, but we managed to purge the whole line through by about 9:30 a.m. Not bad, really.
