Tis true....However, most that live around the city area (which would be equivalent to Gainesville) don't bother and they still get loads of snow. The roads are just taken care of better (like around here). Now - in the country - forget it. I wouldn't be caught dead without snow tires. In fact, we are driving up to Vermont tomorrow night and hauling a trailer behind us....not looking forward to it AT ALL.....blah....

I take back what I said about Huntsman Blvd. in W. Springfield this morning. I guess there was a section that was not good and people were getting stuck and blocking traffic.

Our neighborhood streets are still pretty crappy. Snow covered and slick.

I don't know. I grew up in NE Ohio. I feel I drive pretty well in snow. We have a Mustang GT and there are some hills in our neighborhood that if I had to stop on, would have difficult time getting going again.

Oh definitely tgbwc. If you have to stop on a hill that was slippery - could definitely cause some problems....the key is to try and not have to stop

Things seemed better this afternoon. There are still some icy patches but the solid sheets of ice are gone. Be careful at night as it might be hard to see them.

My neighborhood in Burke never got plowed/treated, so the roads are still covered in pack snow/ice. Not looking forward to going to work in the morning...the main roads were all fine though. I was nervous this morning since my neighborhood was such a mess. Definitely breathed a sigh of relief when I got out of my development!

Fairfax Station Road was HORRIBLE this morning. It hadn't been touched...no salt or sand. I had a hell of a time getting my kids to school, but we were only a half hour late (on top of the 2 hour delay)!

My bus is normally very good in the snow....it weighs 30,000 pounds and has a huge diesel engine right over the four rear tires. When that thing spins the wheels, it is VERY slick.

I don't care if you're from Vermont or Siberia...you'd have had a great deal of trouble on Ffx Station this morning.

Further down in Clifton, Henderson Rd was closed completely....none of those kids got picked up.

Exactly, just look ahead to avoid braking. If you are approaching a stop sign and nobody is around just keep going rather than try to stop there. Also the benefit of 4WD is that it will let you build enough speed to pass someone who is creeping along rather than having to brake behind them and potentially slide. Keep an eye on sidewalks as well, sometimes there is more traction to be had there than the road itself.

I'm glad that they're letting the kids out before the snow starts today...

Being from Upstate NY, it's rather amazing to watch the DC area "prepare" for at-most 1" of snow.
I'm from NJ and still thinks its funny, lol.
