My parents are coming into town tomorrow and was thinking about treating them to steamed crab from one of those seafood markets in the city. Are there any good picnic areas where we could enjoy them?

I've heard good things about Great Falls but I'm thinking it'll be impossible to get a table cause of the holiday weekend. Place with tables would be nice but also open to an area where we could just lay out a blanket and sit on the ground.

Thanks.

The GW Parkway on both sides has plenty of scenic green space along the Potomac River. Another scenic place in DC itself is Haines Point, which is near the tidal basin, but less discovered, and is near your fish markets. Fort Washington in MD is scenic and historic. You may also find a table in the back areas of Fort Hunt in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County....

Good luck with your picnic, it sounds great!

You might try River Bend Park - it is a nice walk from there down to Great Falls after your picnic
Riverbend Park*- Fairfax County, Virginia

Meadowlark Gardens is also very nice

The Riverband park is free but you have to pay, I think, $10, at the Great Falls.
