Please explain how the theft of these guns provides for more danger than if the burglary had happened at the shop's old location.
The more salient point is probably that they didn't have a theft at the old location, but the publicity generated by the store's relocation adjacent to an elementary school may have brought the store to the robber's attention.

There's not a lot to be said here that hasn't been said up-thread, but the fact that the store was successfully burglarized shortly after its opening was noteworthy, given all the comments made that gun store owners are upstanding members of the community who take safety and security seriously. NOVA Firearms didn't take security as seriously as it ought to, and as a result it was burglarized by a guy who wasn't protecting the community, but robbing gas stations and convenience stores up and down the East Coast.

Please provide any details to back this up. Do you know what their Security plan is? Do you know how it was breached? There are very few (if any) security systems that are impenetrable. Just because someone was able to get in; it does not mean they did not take security as seriously as it ought to.

It kind of speaks for itself, doesn't it? They have oodles of firearms and ammunition in an old house that's doubling as a retail store, and within weeks of opening they get broken into by a petty crook who gets away with multiple weapons. And you want to suggest that even Fort Knox could be penetrated by a genius? Obviously, there were multiple breaches.

This whole thing just reaks of stupidity. Put a gun store next to an elementary school, then it gets robbed of it's inventory.

I know who my nominee is for this year's Darwin Award.

How does putting it on the opposite side of the block from an elementary school increase the chances of it being robbed?

Second and third graders are smarter than some think. Perhaps the increased emphasis on STEM is starting to show dividends.

I don't know, I don't care. The fact that it's next to an elementary school in general is enough for me to say....

It's three walking blocks from any entrance of the elementary school.

From a resolution adopted by the school's PTA in opposition to the store's location:

"NOVA Firearms opened its store at 1389 Chain Bridge Road on September 26th. The rear of the gun store is located approximately 100 feet from the school building. The two properties are separated by a simple chain link fence."

By the way, every local candidate who went on the record as opposing the store's current location and was up for re-election in November 2015 won, including John Faust, Barbara Favola, Rip Sullivan, Kathleen Murphy, Marcus Simon, Janie Strauss and Ryan McElveen.

Wrong. It's a hop over a chain-link fence to the school building, which runs along the back of the gun store's parking lot.

Maps

If you "birds eye" view the link above, it's the white building that looks like a house sitting in the middle of a parking lot that shares the boundary line with the school behind it.
