An easy way to do that (sold comps) is through Zillow. Just set the search parameters to "sold" and then look at the map for the findings around the area. Do a little math to figure out prices per acre and/or square footage, and you should start to get an idea. I like Zillow because it also (usually) has a direct link to the county information that it is pulling it's data from. Mess around in the county files, and you'll be able to find what the neighbors paid and when.


Redfin is pretty good too, as is realtor.com. Match all of these with Google Earth for reference, and you should be able to figure out some of the answers to your questions. Bing maps has a nice "birds eye view" that Google doesn't, which is even better.

There are two sites that specialize in acreage...most not on MLS....Country Homes, Farms, Ranches for Sale, Recreational Property & Land - United Country Rural Real Estate and Land for sale, acreage for sale, lots for sale, farms for sale at LandWatch.com 640 acres in Lovelock, where they got OJ in a cell, for 72,000.
