The Maine Ave Fishmarket is still there, though there has been significant pressure from developers to get rid of it so more waterfront can be turned into storefronts, hotels, and condos.

It's not really the place to buy crab-cakes. The barges sell all kinds of fried stuff, especially clam strips, but not really crab-cakes. I go there in the summer to buy steamed crabs, freshly shucked oysters,as well as specialty fish that are hard to find at regular supermarkets. The prices are kind of high (you can get cheaper seafood at most NoVA Asian supermarkets). There are a number of restaurants in the newly developed midrise buildings next to the Fishmarket, most are quite pricey.

I usually take the Potomac River Water Taxi from Alexandria - a fun thing to do on a hot summer day. The Wharf offers a number of festivals and special events throughout the year.

Might be the best place to buy the containers of jumbo lump to make your own. The amount of breading can vary dramatically. Had them at Silver Diner once, and it was a disgrace. Doesn't Trader Joe's have their own?

Clyde's at Tysons.....no sure if the have reopened. I believe they are relocating to a new building later this year. I just ate a crabcake sandwich at Coastal Flats on Thursday. Decent, very close 2nd to what I remember (Clydes has been temporarily closed due to construction).

I haven't been there in a while but I've had good crab cakes at RT's in Arlandria on Mt. Vernon Avenue. Sip'n'Bite is good. Worth a trip up to Bawlmer.

Easier and faster to go to Charles County to Capt Billy's or Capt. John's crab house's.

I used to visit both Capt Billy's and Capt John's when I lived in Southern Maryland. Good crab cakes, good seafood, and a lovely view of the water from the dining room.

I love them both but they are kinda far to drive from NoVA. In NoVA, we have Capt Pell's Crab House in Fairfax. To me, the food is kinda "eh", but there is no denying that it is a Crab House, locals like it, and it is in NoVA. Capt Pell's does not feature a water view but does have a good view of the traffic on Route 29.

I used to go to Captain Pell's when I lived out that way. But I never got the crab cakes. Just the steamed crabs. Generally I avoid crab cakes unless the place is within about 25 miles of the bay. Which pretty much rules out NoVa. As I mentioned earlier RT's in Arlandria can be good (or was ) but too expensive.
