I am not from this area. I just moved to Alexandria last summer. I am from an area where we don't see a lot of snow. Also, I never used airlines to travel until we moved here. I see they are calling for heavy snow tomorrow. My plan for tomorrow is to get to the BWI airport via metro train and bus to fly home to spend Christmas with my family. Our flight is scheduled to leave when the snow is supposed to be heavy (around 2pm). How will heavy snow affect my travel tomorrow? Do the metro trains and buses still run? Will my flight probably be delayed?

Hard to predict Metro, but your flight will probably be delayed anyway, so it may be irrelevant.

Check with your airline. Check the Metro page. I'm guessing your flight will probably be delayed if it's as heavy as they're saying. I'm pretty sure the buses will probably run, I mean this could be a "big" storm for this area, but other parts of the country have already dealt with much more. Just leave a little earlier to give yourself extra time to account for the inevitable delays along the way.

Emmy,

I would be ready to make the trick, but plan on the flight being cancelled. Check your airline's website when you get up in the morning and continually until you'd need to leave. Airports are going to be filled with anxious, cranky travelers who all need to get from X to Y RIGHT NOW, and you don't want to be a part of that. Actually, call your airline right now to see what the status is and see if you can rebook without penalty for a Sunday flight. Frankly, some people with Saturday flights won't make it out until Tuesday, if that early. This one, hitting all the airports up the East Coast, is going to be a mess to clean up from, travel-wise.
