I'm looking to hear from new Hawaii residents and/or former Hawaii residents whom moved their household goods via a PODS-like service.
My move is from Honolulu to Portland. I only know of two companies that will service Hawaii (to and from). The costs I've gotten from both companies are as follows:
PODS 8'W x 7'H x 7'D container: $3717
ABF ReloCube 7'W x 8'H x 6'D container: $4270
Questions:
1. Does this look about right?
2. Is there a better cost alternative?
Those "cubes" are designed to fit inside a container, so 5 can fit inside a 45' hi-cube or 45' flattrack. Three are to cover the cost of their expenses and services and two are profit. Just because it's smaller does not mean your paying less. You pay 3X more per cubic foot of cubes over a container, but if you don't need the bigger container, you could spend more because of empty space. This is just business, a qt of milk cost more per oz than a gallon of milk cost per ounce.

I moved from NY to Hilo I got quotes from all the places I could find. What Pacificflights says is true I could put more stuff into a 20ʻ container than three pods and it was cheaper. I wen with a container that and Pods does not go to any other Island other than Oahu.
I would sell everything that I could and ship only important things like files, photos, etc in the mail and buy what I sold all over once in Hawaii. It usually works out cheaper, believe it or not, and a heck of a lot less trouble and hassle.
