Helloo.
we are relocating to Oahu from MIchigan in august 2015, my wife is transfering in her job and her school credits to a school there for her Bachelor's degree, in early childhood development I am Disabled on Disability. we have a two year plan so we can be prepared when we arrive and take car of our self's we dont like being a mooch, just getting a jump on some details, we do not wish to take everything just clothes kitchen items some wall pictures, our computer, a few tools, some of our Daughter's, toys she's 9. We just dont wanna have to pay $5.000 dollars to ship those things . any suggestions out there much appreciated thank you.

For what you listed I'd suggest you look into LCL (Less than Container Load) shipping through a local freight forwarding company. You'll box up your goods and stack them on a standard 4' X 4' shipping pallet up to 7' high, with wrapping around the outside. They will arrange for it (or them if you have multiples), to join other pallets in a Hawai'i bound container. This is how businesses ship goods to Hawai'i if they don't have enough for a full 20' container.

Pods, of various kinds from different companies, are also smaller than full container load, in various sizes, and are generally the most expensive way to ship a given volume of goods, but they are a more convenient option for consumers, so you have to consider that factor.
