Are you staying in Waikiki or up on the North Shore or elsewhere? Where you are located will make a big difference in your access to activities and things to do through the day and evening.
In my opinion, staying in Waikiki provides the most to do and easiest access to things day and night.
Turtle Bay on the North Shore is pretty isolated with a beach and golf course but not much else nearby.
We are staying in Kahala. I have to admit, I have no idea where that is, lol. We are going thru a travel agency and, because I'm too busy, I trusting them completely. However, I'm starting to get worried, since usually I take care of all the details.
And don't forget Pearl Harbor and the Arizona! I don't know if the Missouri is open right now but don't miss it if it is. You can stand right where McArthur stood when the truce was signed. Hawaii is a magical place. You'll have a wonderful time.
........ I'm concerned about Oahu since a friend of mine, who honeymooned there, just told me that six days is way too much and we'll be bored. .........
Six days on Oahu would be a long stay for anyone who disliked scenery, had no interest in history, had no interest in different cultures, only wanted to eat at Pizza Hut because they didn't trust any other restaurant, hated to walk, and disliked tropical plants and fish.
If you are more like the majority of tourists, 6 days on Oahu is a nice stay for an overview, but you probably won't see and do everything.
Oahu is geared up to entertain tourists. Besides Pearl Harbor (which I consider to be a must see), there are luaus, hula shows (both daily and nightly) and fireworks. There are lovely foreign cuisine restaurants. There are hikes and cultural centers and palaces to see.
It's enjoyable to just sun on the beach, just stop before you get burned. There are surfing lessons and fishing. You can learn how to paddle an outrigger canoe. You can go snorkeling and see tropical fish.
Seriously, you should be able to find something that you like to do.

Hmmm .... That is in a residential location away from the hub of activities. If you stay there, there is not much to do other than what is right there on site at the resort. I can see your teens becoming bored there and you really would need to drive every day to get into the heart of activities. But if you want a quiet and private place to stay, away from all the activity, that would be ok. But it is in a residential location and not much do in the surrounding area.
The teens would find much more to do right outside their doorstep if you were to choose the Hilton Hawaiian Village or if you want more upscale, The Royal Hawaiian or the Halekulani. Much more to do and explore in those places. But you will be in a busier area. But you won't be short of things to do or things to walk to.
On the plus side, the Kahala is a nice resort, if you like golf, you'll be teased by the private club you can't use (site of the Sony Open) - The Kahala is where celebrities stay to be out of Waikiki as it is quiet. Not much to do there except pool activities - and they do have dolphins at the resort.
I think the kids would be happier right in the heart of the Waikiki.

I agree, I can't believe your agent knew you have kids and put you so far away from all the action.
She said there's a shuttle to Waikiki and the kids can go by themselves.
We will have a car.
You will find that frustrating and a pain in the neck.
