So is Honolulu another typical sprawled out, car obsessed American city? (to live in, law)

Like, to live in Honolulu and just enjoy it's amenities throughout the city, is it necessary to own a car? Don't worry about the whole island, I'm just curious about the city itself. Thanks a lot.
Many in Hono have cars, traffic suffers because of it- there is a great public transit system though so you certainly do not *need* one. As far as car-obsessed, I would say it is much less so than most cities, people generally drive cars for efficiency- fuel and parking efficiency, rather than status. That isn't to say you won't see BMWs, but I think it's more common to see little hondas than BMWs.

thanks for the quick response. i just read a few minutes ago Hono has a great bus system. good to know. thanks again man.
Owning a car is not necessary. The bus system is a great way to get around town. I rarely use it though cause I live 10 minutes walking distance from work. Riding a bike or using a moped is also a great alternative. I sometimes ride my bike around at night as it is a great form of exercise and very refreshing. I don't own a moped(is looking for a good one at the moment) but seeing how lax the law is towards them and how many people are using them I would say they are a good investment.
