Wow, you must have no connection to the real world my man. Because anyone older than you had an easy life and isn't in the world; wealth and idleness have nothing to do with it, it's called life experience and it always trump your inexperience in the end. Your jealousy and resentment are showing, another growing issue along with drug addiction.

You said the virus pandemic is the worst event in your life. Tons of people have been through a lot more than this and you automatically make presumptions that others have it easy and are wealthy.

Unfortunately this virus pandemic will not be the worst thing that happens in your life. Not sure how old you are but I'm hoping your extremely young, as in actual kid-age young because you sure are coming across that way.

As all-star NBA champ and Chinese communist party propagandist LeBron James said about NEO ''everything is earned, nothing is given''....life can be tough, get used to it so strap on a pair and get out there and start earning and stop feeling sorry for yourself by drinking and drugging yourself to the grave.

Time for many people to put their big boy, girl, or non-gender pants on...even at the age of 37 or so. It's never too late to grow up and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Make your own reality.

Because I have empathy - for folks on respirators right now. For doctors and nurses I know who are falling over from this. I have empathy for my elderly parents - who are losing their retirement right now. I have empathy for my (former) co-workers who are without insurance right now AND without a job.

But ya know what? None of them want my empathy OR sympathy because they are grown adults, and realize throwing your life away over a temporary financial struggle is stupid. And by "temporary" they mean a few years or so. After that, we can talk again. Drugs are NOT cheaper than being out of work. But drugs will KEEP you out of work when the time comes. So it's a bad decision- if you're thinking like an adult.

Or put another way:

Suck it up, buttercup.
I didn't read this posts prior to responding to BJimmy but this is true. Too many self-centered emotional hemophiliacs out there for sure. Being self-centered is the basis for self-pity as well which is all BJimmy is seeing with his friends, he just doesn't get it.

Of course we all have empathy. No one knows how long there will be financial struggling or not really much. Alcohol, drugs, even dropping out have always been outlets for people dealing with life...today however, we have a generation in adulthood with many seemingly caught up in perpetual adolescence. When I hear adult ''professionals'' whimpering about someone being ''mean'' to them I can't imagine how they're handling this virus.

Wait until they see how mean China is....this virus war is nothing compared to what is on the horizon from them.

because, in part, everyone is a victim of someone or something today. Once this mindset takes over, which it has in many aspects of our society/culture, how can one have accountability and self-responsibility? It's tough teaching this to a 35 year old.

Mommy runs your life well into adulthood and fends off any negativity. You're on your parents health insurance until your 26, your parents are your besties and you hang with them and your mom loves it when people think she's her daughter's sister...lol.

Who else can these emotional hemophiliacs blame for their current first time bump in the road? Certainly not China, because that's racism.

Of course what little they know about ''socialism'' is appealing to them.

It's just amazing that these people can go on for so long in life with such a level of zero self awareness. What ever happened to "suck it up" and "figure it out"?

We’ve got fools out there that can’t follow simple protocol and we wonder why we’re in this situation. We have other countries that laid the blueprint on how to handle it and instead of going with that, all I hear are excuses as to why America can’t do such a thing. We better LEARN how to sooner rather than later.
you better watch those micro-aggressions though...

It is unbelievable, no doubt, and this pandemic sure has brought lots of chickens home to roost.

Who really wants to teach a now middle age adult that life has challenges and isn't always smooth sailing despite their awesome facebook full of selfies and their fabulous, yet shallow, life?

Life is for learning after all so suck it up and figure it out indeed.

You're not confused at all. Wonder if anyone has broken the news to these middle aged adolescents that they to will die at some point.

It's funny because my post was about people not even being able to handle a different opinion with turning into mushroom clouds...which was the trigger for BJimmy to mushroom cloud in this thread...see, I told ya! lol

No one wants to teach them but if no one educates them then they have no chance in hell.

Another thing that society seems to keep trying to turn into some kind of nail biter is the concept of an emergency fund. Such a simple concept, yet people try to make it so complex. Why? Because it requires self responsibility!

It's pounded into people's minds over and over and over again: "save enough money for a 6 month emergency fund!"

What do these people do instead? They DON'T LISTEN and instead spend money that could be saved on stupid things they didn't need like a $400 bar tab every weekend. 10 years goes by and they could have saved plenty but they still don't have an emergency fund. Do we need to teach a class called "basic life skills 101" and have it be a part of the drivers licence test or something LOL? Maybe a bonus class can be instilling mental toughness while we are at it?

(I'm not talking about people that never had a chance to save, I'm talking about the ones that could have saved but chose not to)

A common but often weak rebuttal is:

"but how do you expect someone to save when they are living pay check to pay check?!?"

Um... by not CHOOSING to live beyond their means in the first place? What a novel concept!

then the ever so predictable follow up:

"but..but..but.. you don't know their life circumstances!"

Huh? They either listened and saved up 5 some or 10 some years ago or they didn't listen. It's not rocket science.

Yeah, they can't have it both ways: Either they were working, and are now getting UI + 600 - likely a raise - but even if not, that's going to be something like 50K / year. If you cannot stave off addiction or suicide "earning" 50K a year while not having to leave your pajamas, you may want to get some self-evaluation underway.

If you are NOT getting UI - then I can only conclude you weren't working before, either. No change for you.

If you are absolutely getting fleeced on UI - as in, you made, say 200K before - but now you don't - and you can't afford your Audi payment - ya shoulda saved up years ago. Poor decision making. Sell the Audi and live like a king for a few weeks. Then start over. It's what people do. I have started over three times. Do I love it? No. Will I do it a 4th and 5th and 25th time if necessary? Of course.
