I used to live in Medina and loved it... still miss it to this day. Went to school at Mount Union College in Alliance. Trust me when I say, AVOID ALLIANCE, OHIO!!

I went to college at Mount Union in the 1970s, it was okay for a town then. I don't know if I would have wanted to live there. I do recall that Main Street was dead-end, both ways!

It has been 10 years or so since I have been back.

Default Not Medina - try Oberlin

I guess Medina is a great town for little yuppie families, but as a single guy, having lived here for about 10 years, I find it to be very closed-minded, ultra-conservative, and not the type of place where I want to stay much longer.

If it weren't so far from work, my number one choice would be Oberlin. Kent might be number two.

Oberlin is a beautiful little town surrounded by a liberal arts college. The downtown consists of a couple book stores, a coffee shop, some unique restaurants, and an old fashioned movie theatre.

Medina, on the other hand, has been Wal-Martified to the nth degree. You name a chain, it has opened up in Medina. The downtown IS beautiful....but there really aren't any nice shops. It just looks good.

If you're looking for a "bible-belt" type of community, then by all means, try Medina. But if you want an open minded, quiet little town, try Oberlin.

I live in North Royalton which is not far from Medina. The city is very nice and school system is very good. You can get a nice house with alot of room pretty reasonable.

I would try and stay in the Akron suburbs. Green, Springfield, Uniontown, or even hartville. They are only 15 to 20 minutes away from Downtown Akron. Downtown akon is growing every day. The new library is awesome, the First National Tower is being expanded onto, you have 3 mall within 15-20 min away (Chapel Hill, Belden Village and Summit). The schools are good and crime is low. Canton is only a 25min drive to the south and Cleveland is 40 minutes to the north.

Ohh and if you want to live in the city West Akron is VERY nice. West Market and the surrounding streets are full of old historical mansions, landmarks, and market leads right into downtown. Firestone Highschool is the local public HS there, and while it may be a city school, its the one school Akron takes a lot of pride in. You could also send you kids to Woodridge, Copley-Fairlawn etc... if you don't want them in a city school as neither are very far.
