My parents moved here in 1967; settled in Mission Viejo in 1969 while I was pursuing a doctorate at Cal-Berkeley. I'm an old fart now.

Go Bears! Both my parents and I went there. My mom was born there in the 20s.

You're asking several different questions:

"Where are most residents of OC from?"

is a different question than

Obviously I am not looking for any specific numbers or anything just what people have observed.

Why would someone prefer "guesses" over specific numbers?

just want to get a feel of the demographics of the area.

You can get a feel for the demographics in about five minutes from tons of internet web pages such as this one City Data.

my mom's grand parents moved to OC in the 40s. my dad's parents came to OC in the 50s. both sets of families are from the northern midwest btw. anyways, my parents were both born in OC as well as their siblings. however, on both sides, i only have one uncle who is still left in OC (and a cousin who is attending college but i'm not sure where she'll end up). my parents moved out to riverside county along with an aunt. another aunt moved to washington and another uncle moved to AZ. my surviving grandparents are in AZ and the palm springs area. as for me, i moved out of riverside county as soon as I could and have now settled happily in LA. this doesn't say much about where people in OC come from, but it gives you an idea about the exodus from OC to other parts of CA and the US.

In answer to your real question - you'll do just fine as an Englishman in Orange County. There are so many people there from all over the planet they won't think anything of it. It's not like you're Irish or something.

The whole reason for me moving to OC is to get away from England and its way of life. Dont get me wrong I love the country but would like to experience something new.
Hi there,
My husband has been here 10 years and loves it!
He keeps in touch with his family mostly via Facebook and gets his HP and chocolate fix from an Indian/British grocery in Lake Forest called Ninas. Once in a while we go to Santa Ana to the Olde Ship for Bangers and Mash, and Sticky Toffee Pudding! Yum!

He doesn't feel the need to seek out fellow Brits, but it's fun to run into one here and there and listen to them have a chat. He never was one for the pubs and football BTW, he's a Star Trek/computer geek and that's the crowd he runs with no matter the background!

BTW, how are you going to enter the U.S.? Did you get a job offer? Do you have a visa?
Best of luck!

Yes I can see myself craving british food after a while - bangers and mash sounds good

To your question. I am a businessman, and in London I owned a chain of mini supermarkets which I have sold. When I move to OC I plan on going back into exactly the same type of work because I enjoyed it. I have already been in contact with a few California business brokers on purchasing supermarkets in the area and have got back some very interesting candidates.

I am in the process of looking at an EB-5 Visa and going through the paperwork as we speak.

Best of luck. Hope you're able to navigate our ridiculous immigration practices. The U.S. needs more like you and fewer third world "family reunification" old people who contribute much less to the economy. Affluent and educated Europeans such as yourself should be given instant permanent resident status.

Well, good for you!!

Wow. Someone who won't be saying, "It's better in England." (Or Cleveland or NYC) You are a rare duck indeed. I hope you love OC and I wish you well.
