Maybe this is a long shot, but I'm tired of managed properties so I figured I'd give it a try. If you don't want to read the whole shpiel, I'm looking for private apartment listings in the OC.

My wife and I moved here last July from Minnesota; she's an RN at CHOC and I'm about to go back to school(stupid Ca residency requirements). We're living at a Creekside Meadows in Tustin and we like it well enough, but we're getting pretty tired of the feel of the "community."

Basically, we'd like something less homogeneous. Before we moved here, we'd always lived in neighborhoods where the majority of the people were long time residents, and we like that feel. Transient living just doesn't fit our personalities. We're quiet people who like the feel of a real neighborhood.

Ideally, we would love to live in a 1br near the beach (corona del mar, ahhhh). We're the kind of couple who still enjoys going a few times a week even though it's a drive. Anything within 30 minutes or so of CHOC would be acceptable, further if it's really worth it.

Anyway, if anyone could recommend a way to find some private apartment listings, I would be quite grateful. I've tried Craig's List, but it is bursting with shady managed properties and foreclosed listings.

The Pennysaver might have what you're looking for. That or just drive around the areas you like and look for signs.

Drive the streets, for one. Otherwise, Pennysaver and Westside Rentals may have the most thorough listings.

Every time you want something nice you need to spend the extra $. Same applies to a place to live. Want quiet non-transient neighbors, forget about apartmant living. Rent a home in a nice neighborhood. If you don`t want to spend the extra $ you`ll find yourself among colorful characters. What you pay is what you get - NO EXCEPTIONS!

It's not always about not wanting to spend the extra. I'm paying $1350 to rent a 2/2 apartment. Across the street, single family homes are renting for $1000 more. That's a big jump! Of course I'd rent a house over an apartment if I had an extra $12,000/yr just laying around.
