You read way more into my statement than there was ever intended.

I was trying to find a way to state that Oregon is just not as dense as California WITHOUT sounding judgemental & you went all judgemental judo on me!

I love Oregon. I didn't come here to wish anything California like on it.

It's just a-m-a-z-i-n-g that this state is so unpopulated, in comparison to where "I" came from. I had to come from SOMEWHERE since I wasn't born here!

You're the first person in my city-data life to come off as so overtly hostile.

I'm not looking for enemies here! There's no real conflict!

Peace - Kate

PS I just posted to get the thread started! You have to admit it is startling to compare the numeric differences... As for tax base for services, CA takes the cake & runs over it - their tax base is spent ahead of time apparently! Of course we don't want OR to be like CA, silly.
Sarahkate, the minute I read what this poster had to say, I realized that your post was misinterpreted. What you said made sense. Not to worry, dahlink.

Default re calling for bus service

That is one of the more efficient ways to provide service, in the cities folks know it as the "airport shuttle" where you schedule your ride ahead and then wait for the van to pick you up. In smaller places, or in some places in order to provide services to elderly and handicapped, they do this.

If you think taxes do not go toward autos you don't know about the import restrictions that shore up Detroit and the Huge percentage of most state taxes that go toward paving roads.

Cities (or should I say towns) at the coast don't have bus systems, counties do. Google Transit shows most of them, though it sure wants to send you back to the valley a lot. A stretch between Yachats and Florence seems to be the only missing link. Otherwise, you can travel the length of the coast by bus.

The way around taxes are fees. You want bus service in Lincoln County? Charge a small toll to cross the bridges in Waldport and Newport. Use the money collected for a county bus service.Increase the license fee for vehicles based on the vehicles value. Should the person driving a $100k Mercedes pay the same as someone driving a used $3k Honda Civic?

My wife and I bought a beach house in Lincoln County recently. Had we purchased that home in Sonoma or Mendocino County in NoCal it would have cost five times as much. In SoCal probably ten times. California is a great place to live if you're employeed with a good paying job, however once on a fixed income it isn't. The taxes and high fees will kill you. You can expect an influx of retired baby boomers from California and other states coming to the inexpensive Oregon Coast in the near future.

YES! Why not? It should be the same fair flat fee for everyone.

And you want to increase vehicle registration fees and implement bridge tolls?
With the above thinking about tolls and registration fees, Oregon will be in the same condition as California is now, very soon.

I know this was a long time ago that this question was asked but I thought I would chime in as a local just in case you (or someone else) still has questions.

Lincoln City specifically does have a bus system. I know a lot of people that use it, and while it's not as convenient or as frequent as the Metro area systems, it works for the laid back lifestyle we have here. You would just need to adjust your day to the bus schedule.

If you have any additional questions whatsoever I would be happy to help. :-)
