I see people driving vehicles and they are labeled "HUMMER" on them. I believe this is the name of the brand name. Those vehicles look like Jeeps but they're not. Must be places to buy them in the United States if so many people are driving them. Any insight on who owns Hummer and what their status is. Could not find any recently updated information on a google search.
Hummers are/were made by AM General. They were originally the civilian versions of the HumVee made for the military. You can google AM General and GM. You can read about their short history with the H2 and H3 (garbage).
The H1 is a beast in it's element - but not exactly practical on a daily basis due to it's 8' width and under-powered engine.
I believe the brand name is still owned by GM. H1 was based on the military vehicle and produced by AM General. H2 and H3 were re-bodied GM platforms and were pretty bad.

General Motors bought the rights to the Hummer name from AM General in 1998. They started selling the GM designed Hummer H2 in 2003, and then the smaller H3 in 2006. Hummer stopped selling vehicles after the 2009 GM bankruptcy. The newest ones you can find are 2010 H3 and H3T models.
Montague also made officially licensed Hummer branded bicycles from 2002-2007. Fun fact, Montague also built bicycles with officially licensed branding from BMW in the 1990s. They were the official bike of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
The new post-bankruptcy GM still owns the rights to the Hummer name. They even still make a Hummer branded cologne to keep the trademark alive.

Actually, the H2 had a custom frame. The rear was re-used from the Chevrolet Suburban and the front section came from a heavy-duty GM pickup truck, but the midsection was completely custom. The H2 was also built in the same AM General plant in Mishawaka, IN as the original Humvee. The H3 was built at the old GM plant in Shreveport, LA.
I know some people around here that own Hummers. You have to order them directly from GM though they are not sold on the dealer's lot. https://www.gmc.com/electric-truck/hummer-ev Used ones I've known people to go to New Jersey to buy, and sometimes places in/near Syracuse (if you're lucky) have used ones for sale.
There were dedicated Hummer dealerships. All closed now.
GM is bringing back the Hummer name - but it will be all electric.
