There was a large floor model radio in a wooden cabinet sitting in the parlor. We all gathered there after supper to listen to our favorite programs and visit as a family.....perhap Mom was sewing or sorting stuff, Dad sorta reading and falling to sleep from time to time and my brother and I lying on the floor building with the erector set or some other project or game (pick up sticks was a biggie).....and baby sister playing with her dolls......it was like a scene from Norman Rockwell.
We did eventually get a TV.......but I like the radio memories better......yes our tv was most definately b/w and had a tiny screen. They also used to sell a vinyl sheet to put over the tv screen that had blue on the top third....yellow in the middle and....brown or green on the bottom....to make it seem to be in color..... they really did! Do you remember when you got your first color TV ? I was probably in college when that happened.....I dont remember it....so I must have been away.
