When a plane flew overhead, it was so loud you had to stop talking until it passed.

I'm so old I can remember when our black & white TV was dominated by Amos N Andy, Howdy Doody, Saturday night boxing in San Diego (Archie Moore) where we lived at the time, and other shows which don't come quickly to mind.

Standing up in the back seat while riding the car. so I could see out. No AC, windows open, smelling hemp, pea silaage, paper mills, manure spreaders. Even at night, every few miles, through a frog-loud micro-wetland.
