The sight of blood makes run! Having a 23 year old son, I always look at the car to make sure it's not one of my own.
About 25 years ago, I did stop at an accident, tried to help the person involved by keeping her calm until the ambulance arrived. We were both sitting on the street curb and I was comforting her. I wrapped a sheet around her shoulders (always keep a clean white folded sheet in my trunk, weird thinking) and the next thing I heard she started screaming that it was all my fault! By the time the ambulance and police arrived, I was shaken badly over her accusations. The police did question me and looked over my car. I still remember this like yesterday. I will stop to help someone, or call 911 but never lose sight of people's first thoughts when traumatized.

2goldens....you must have been somewhat traumatized yourself after that! I have dialed 911 for assistance and have stopped. with so many having cell phones they usually just wave me off and show me their 'phone around here.
And not only 'rubber necking', but research has found that most will automatically steer their vehicle in the same direction as they are looking. Thus causing those accidents that you hear/read about; someone running into vehicles parked along the roadside.
When my kids were young, we were headed to "Thr Mall" it was quite the drive. Traffic had come to a crawl on the highway. I knew it wasn't going to be good. There were the rubberneckers What had happened was a vehicle had run into the support for the overpass. Totally engulfed in flames. As we were able to pass I could feel the heat. I had to pull off of the highway, stop my car and just cried and prayed. The news that evening was it was a women that apparently committed suicide. To this day I remember that sight, but I sincerly wonder from the way the events leading up to impact were different than surmised. Maybe she passed out or some kind of medical problem incapasitated her. As to rubbernecking, people should understand that it slows emergency help getting there in a timely manner. Creates more possible traffic hazards, and if you aren't able to be of help in an emergency...stay clear of it because you only become a hindrence.

Here is MY pet peeve for...well, a while now. Door to door salesmen who don't knock on the door, they BANG on the door, then if you don't answer-like there's any chance you didn't hear that banging, they bang even harder!!! Or, the ones who do the buddy knock, you know, taptap ta taptap, tap tap-like OH it's my neighbo-
