(sigh) I just need to think outside the box. At this rate, I'll wind up staying home as I'm getting tired of cost comparisons, etc. Oh well ... Maybe it's not meant for me to book a trip during that week but I can't help feeling disappointed.
Good news ... I finally found somewhere to go ... Yes, tickets were a bit pricey but the hotel pricing wasn't too bad. Guess I'll be celebrating my birthday in another country this year

Toronto, ON ... Not too terribly exotic but will satisfy my desires to travel somewhere different. Eventually, I'll get to do Europe but not this summer with the Olympics being in London

Good call Chatt. Anyone venturing to London during the Olympics will be ripped off something awful.

Both are good enough reasons to keep my Chatty butt in North America! My biggest concern besides the crowds and cost would be issues with flying into and out of Heathrow with the excess crowds drawn to London for the Olympics. If I were to travel in other European Countries, I'd likely have to transfer in Heathrow as there are very limited direct flights from LAX to Europe.

Chatt, if you ever visit England, forget London, it is expensive, totally not worth it these days. Fly to Manchester, and concentrate on the cities of Chester and York. Lots of history and museums in both places. Chester has a lot of Elizabethan buildings. Then for a bit of fun, Manchester is great. Theatres, good pubs, and lots of choice of great food.

Pub??? Did someone say pub???

My favorite is Durty Nelly's in Ireland...right next to Bunratty Castle. I think Dublin.
