We're lucky. This credit union is very small. Until they merged, they had the one branch, run by two women. By our third trip there, they knew us by sight. It's still small; I think the CU they merged with has only 3 branches, 4 now. They know we're retired and won't be borrowing anything unless absolutely necessary, so they don't push anything.
Oh, we were talking about stores. Sorry, Chatt. Yes, they'll give you an extra 10% discount today if you open a credit card. Yeh, and if you don't pay it off right away, we'll charge you 24% interest. Give me a break.
^^^^ Bankers are not far from the days of the past. Wasn’t it the Longshoremen’s union that provided short term loans and they simply broke a leg if you didn’t pay them back 50% interest each month.

My electricity was out for 1.5 hours but fortunately, it has been restored. I just wish my nerves were not such a wreck worrying about the food in the fridge/freezer.

Here's a freezer tip for you: Put several ice cubes in a small ziploc bag. If they stayed cube-shaped, you're fine. Worry if it became one bag of solid ice because that means the ice melted and re-froze.
neighbor venting--it's summer and the constantly screeching child is again playing in my driveway----broke my car side mirror last year--so far broke facing on his house for a change this year--kid is poorly parented----no restrictions---has behavioral issues---mom is totally not monitoring negative behaviors---has her own issues(no dad due to divorce)-----wish me luck on finding a single house with only cows and chickens as neighbors

Thanks NMS ... I think the food should be ok but I was a nervous wreck as I just went to my favorite out of the way market and would have hated to lose those items. That's a good trick about the ice cubes ... I'll have to do that.

Fridges are well insulated these days, so it takes a while for things to go bad, as long as you leave the door closed.
