So if you can "run a tab" and your son does this, why was your daughter's lunch thrown away when she didn't have enough?
I agree with the "my stomach isnt awake yet" thing. I often feel sick if I eat before i leave for work. I usually munch on something around 10 then take lunch around 1.
I culdn't understand that, either. They could run a tab for ds, but when dd account went negative, they threw her tray away.
But its too bad if his "stomach isn't awake" at breakfast. Our pocket book isn't "awake" then, either. We're on a tight budget, he's offered food, we can't cater to his every whim when we don't cater to our own "whims".

are you talking about 2 different school districts in 2 different states? they are running a tab now, but threw away your daughter's food 5 years ago IN A DIFFERENT DISTRICT. If I'm understanding this correctly, the daughter's experience is TOTALLY IRRELEVANT.
I can't believe we're still talking about this. You have an irresponsible child. You want to blame the school. Blame him. Talk to him about it. Close the account. Give your daughter cash.
We can't "close the account". They let any kid run a tab, that's how they did things in the last school district (BTW, it was a different district, same state). this problem has gone on for years, we've battled the school until we're silly.
Don't let the kid buy whatever he pleases, then either run a tab or take out of another family member's account to balance it. he was doing things like buying 3-4 gatorades/day, giving them to his friends, going through the breakfast line 2x, when he eats breakfast at home (or at least has the opportunity to do so).
BTW, my dd was 8 when they threw away her tray. This problem of letting ds buy whatever he wanted and taking out of her account continued continued all last year, when we were at the previous schoool district.
Why not talk to ds about it? I've talked until I'm blue in the face, he does as he pleases and the schoo lets him get away with it. As of right now he has 25 cents in his account, when it should have lasted until Sept 15. so, I'm not discussing it endlessly with him.
Like I said, let him go to school, get in the breakfast line, and find out he doesn't have enough to pay for it. And not enough for lunch. I will suggest he pack a lunch tonight, if he doesn't I bet he will tomorrow.
But I'd like to see how this school handles this. do they let the "poor little boy with no lunch money" run a tab, or realize he had plenty of money he went through, so now no money, no food?
Insofar as perhaps what's enough for a girl isn't enough for a boy, well, the school lunch program seems to think so or they would have different lunches for each.
I'm sorry, but the kid is fed amply, just not what he wants when he wants it. Time to realize we all have to adjust to the new economic reality, including him. If dh brown bags it, so can he!
