Have you seen the back seat in a VW? They are fairly spacious. My son's carseat takes up less than the full "seat" in his spot in the back. I dont forsee this being an issue especially if he's in a booster by the time we have our other children.
We've had a mid-size, four-door sedan for carting kids since the first one was a toddler. Works just fine. Before that, we carted him around in a Civic. If you want a mini-van, buy one, but don't be fooled into thinking it's absolutely necessary.

It won't be an issue until they start poking each other and whining about each other being to close. You don't need a larger vehicle just because you have 3 or more kids but it does make life easier.
When we go home for Xmas ( 7 hour drive) w/ all the gifts we bring for nieces, nephews,Parents, godchildren, siblings & not to mention "santa's " gifts in addition to our luggage.... Our mini- van is a necessity -lol!
Up thread there was some discussion about 3 car seats fitting in the back seat. I quick replied instead of quoting. And some people like to plan ahead.
