We were talking about this at work and topic came up. After careful thought the only reason I can imagine that I would disown my child is if they abused raped or killed a baby/child. Other than that I think I could stand by their side through anything.

What about you?

i cant say if i ever would or wouldnt, i suppose it would depend on what happened.

I do know my mother in law's best friend disowned her (now) daughter because her son decided to become her daughter. Rather than accept reality and accept her daughter for who she is, she chose to never acknowledge him and mourned "his" death.

My father in law disowned my husband. He was mad that we didn't have a boy to carry on the family name. He wanted us to divorce so my husband could have kids with another woman. My husband told him that was outrageous, and FIL told him to lose his phone number and never call again.

He left my husband a dollar in his will.

But he forgot to change the beneficiary for his life insurance policy

I could never do that.

I could hate whatever heinous thing they had done but I could never hate my child enough to kick him out of my life.

I was wondering because many people apply it to inheritance only.

I'd never cut my children out of inheritance. I would never say they weren't my children.

I would take a hard stand if they became addicts. I don't tolerate addicts. My children are well aware. When they were growing up, I told them I would kick them out of the house and they would be living in the gutter if they ever even tried HARD drugs. They believed me too. Fortunately, I survived the teen and young adult years without that happening. They're old enough now that it's extremely unlikely it will happen. If it did happen, I would pay whatever it took to put them in the best treatment center in the country if they came to me and said they were ready. But I wouldn't want to hinder their hitting rock bottom by giving them any help or attention until they were ready for real treatment.

As for the sick twisted things like what you proposed, I can't even entertain things like murders, rapes, etc., because my children would never ever do anything like those things. I can't even imagine how that would come to a mother's mind even in a "what if" scenario like this one.

I try to not let unnecessary horrid thoughts play around in my mind like the premise of this thread. I would rather try to think of they ways I would give away $10 million dollars if it fell into my hands.

So true. That's my favorite thing to ponder when I have insomnia. I always fall asleep before I'm done.
