It's no secret many 'parents' these days are lax on discipline and let their bratty kids do and say what they want, creating future generations of entitled narcissists.
I'm old school, though. If you're going to discipline your child, wait until you get home. They'll have the waiting and anticipation on top of the punishment itself.
Most of the time when I see a parent yelling at their kid in public, it's the parent's fault, not the kid's fault. Don't take your kid shopping when they're hungry, tired, etc. Don't let them run wild and only intervene when an employee says something. Don't be so busy with your phone that you're ignoring your child.

I think the whole scenario is strange. The child has ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder, according to the mom. I wonder if the ODD might not come from bizarre punishments like this one. Discipline guides and children learn from it. This isn't discipline, IMO. And I so agree about hearing parents yelling at their children in public. I've heard it at grocery stores/Target/Walmart. Parents yelling at their kids calling them "stupid", "Retarded" (don't get me started on that one), "Idiots".
If I walked in a store bathroom and saw this, the LAST thing I would think would be, "Good for her." I don't understand why she's holding the younger child like a bag of potatoes. And he looks like a white child. So this other woman walks in and decides to start recording??? Social media has really screwed up people's instincts.
Regardless of what the kid is diagnosed with, if you're resorting to this, y'all all need to just go home and start over.

In my opinion there's no reason to make a spectacle for all to see when applying discipline. When my kids were bad, I told them once, knock it off, or else, and if they didn't get it, I told them, when we get home you're getting a lickin'.
I sometimes wonder who's more immature, the kid being disciplined or the parent doing the disciplining.
Correct that is not discipline. Humiliation perhaps.. with a dash of aren't I a swell parent attitude.
I live by the across the board concept that before you delve out such antics....would you like to be subjected to that at work, or in public by your peers? If the answer is no, then stop treating that human you love so dearly like a second class citizen. Your intention needs revamped.
Mother is dishing out discipline in a timely matter. If you wait too long to discipline, it looses its relevance with the behavior.
If you look at the pictures, she has him doing pushups on the far wall away from the stalls, sink, or any high traffic areas of the bathroom. It would be no different from having him do them in any other part of the store.
It is very possible that the son is an athlete in school and this form of punishment is an extension of that discipline that the couch are trying to instill in the child.
My father would have done similar to me... along with a belt at home... but that was a different time.
PS. The person who took that pic and posted on social media should be ashamed of themselves... it is a private matter and one could assume some privacy in a bathroom.
