Was caught in a lake effect snow squall on i-80 once and it was terrifying how fast and fierce it came on.
The lake effect snow can be bad, but since the lake is currently locking up quickly with significant ice coverage and the sun is coming back it looks like this next weekend is going to be pretty much snow free. Just check the weather in advance and it can change quickly so check it a week or two in advance and check a few days before you leave. I also have to say that PennDot does a great job keeping Interstate 79 clear from Meadville to Erie in the winter because I travel frequently to Edinboro and Meadville and I am amazed how well the keep up with the snow.

Current Snowiest US Cities
1. Erie (52.9 inches)
2. Grand Rapids (51.2 inches)
3. Buffalo (47.2 inches)
4. Buffalo (39.3 inches)
5. South Bend (32.2 inches)

Well Erie is still in the lead, but it is quite odd to not even see Syracuse in the top five. This has been one crazy winter so far and Lake Erie is currently at about 86% ice coverage so lake effect snow should slow down for a while.

So far we've only had about 2" of snow here in Philly.

Current Snowiest US Cities
1. Erie (58.4 inches)
2. Grand Rapids (52.3 inches)
3. Buffalo (51.5 inches)
4. South Bend (39.9 inches)
5. Syracuse (39.7 inches)

http://goldensnowglobe.com/current-t...est-cities/Not sure why I included Buffalo twice in the last list, but Erie is still in first and Syracuse is back in the top five. This has been a crazy winter so far and who knows what will happen next. I noticed tons of people ice fishing today on Presque Isle Bay and it warmed up significantly so we had rain and melting.

We've only had 7.5 inches in Pittsburgh. As someone who loves winter and finds it cool to track the weather this time of year, it's been one of the worst and most boring winters I can remember.

Sounds like the kinds of winters I experienced when I was a child. From 1986-1987 to 1991-1992, Pittsburgh had six straight winters with below-normal snowfall, including three consecutive winters with less than 30" of snow (1988-1989, 1989-1990, 1990-1991). Four of the last five winters in Pittsburgh have had over 50" of snow, so that's why this winter seems kind of lame so far. Before 1992-1993, the last time Pittsburgh had over 50" of snow in a winter was 1977-1978. Only four of the 14 winters in between had above-normal snowfall. In other words, the 1980s were mostly bad times for snow lovers, and the winter you're experiencing now would be considered par for the course then.

Current Snowiest US Cities
1. Erie (61.5 inches)
2. Grand Rapids (54.7 inches)
3. Buffalo (51.8 inches)
4. Syracuse (41.1 inches)
5. South Bend (39.9 inches)

Snow keeps coming in Erie and we keep getting a few inches here or there to add to the total and amazingly Erie is now actually ahead of last year's pace. It should be an interesting end to the snow season and with the slow start this year, I am really surprised how much snow we have gotten this year.

27. Allentown (16.8 inches)

I don't see Lackawanna NY on the list.
I thought they got more than 60" just from that one storm last November.
