I don't care what your political persuasion is, but this is as vile as it gets. Using a children's hospital in a fabricated ploy to discredit a political opponent is absolutely disgusting on so many levels.

I REALLY hope CHOP sues the pants off Mastriano's campaign for libel, even if it's just for the pennies that it's worth.

Quote:
The Republican candidate for governor of Pennsylvania this week falsely claimed that the prestigious children’s hospital in Philadelphia was “grabbing” homeless and foster children and “experimenting on them with gender transitioning.”

It was the latest in a series of extreme and false statements by Doug Mastriano, who made the comments during an interview with a right-wing network that features Steve Bannon and a steady stream QAnon conspiracies.

He’s just rehearsing for his Fox News show after he gets trounced on November 8th.

Why am I not surprised someone of Mastriano's caliber is politicizing and lying about both medical professionals and children? I don't take such simplistic good/bad perspectives about people often, but if nothing else convinced you this man is a simply a bad person, this should.

Can a Mastriano supporter on here give me reasons to vote FOR him and not AGAINST Shapiro? Additionally, what are the reasons to NOT vote FOR Shapiro other than "cuz Jewish"?

IDK, when I moved here from New Jersey in 1993, Arlen Specter had already won several statewide races and was a national figure. Did people really vote against him because of his religion? Being from the Metro NYC area, the whole "he's Jewish" thing seems weird.

BTW in neighboring New York, Rep. Lee Zeldin is also running for governor. I have not heard anything about his religion being a factor with voters upstate, but now I suppose it may be. Huh. In 2022.

We have a member on this forum who is openly anti-Semitic and keeps posting borderline (or overt) anti-Semitic things as a reason to not vote for Shapiro.

In terms of not voting for Shapiro I may not agree with (but I can certainly still respect) the vantage point of not voting for him because he, like Gov. Wolf, was "pro-lockdown" at the onset of the pandemic.

If I was a betting man Shapiro and Oz are going to win. PA has a habit of being so moderate/purple that we often vote for a GOP Senator and Democratic governor or vice-versa.

Yeah, that's my bet, too.

Interesting that I haven't heard much if any "but he's Muslim" aimed at Oz, even in the primary, and even of the positive "he would be the first" variety. Someone on this forum accused Oz of being pro-Erdogan, which he is not, and someone else accused him of having divided loyalties because of his dual citizenship, but that's about it.

He dog-whistles loudly enough to summon the entire Westminster Kennel Club, but he’s too much of a coward to admit that he hates Shapiro the Jew because Shapiro has, well, the “nerve” (or should I say chutzpah? ) to be a moderately observant Jew.

I haven’t seen anti-Semitism from anyone else here who seems pro-Mastriano or Mastriano-leaning, although a vote for Mastriano means at least a choice to turn a blind eye to Mastriano’s willingness to cozy up to anti-Semites (among many other sorts of deplorables).

I think that as you implicitly acknowledge, the time for Islamophobia-as-campaign-strategy came and went with the Republican primary. As for the lack of “he would be the first” rhetoric, a not insignificant number of Republicans will vote for Oz despite his being Muslim.

I’m not at all an Oz fan, but both of those claims really rubbed me the wrong way. Oz is a lame, carpetbagger goof, but I have no reason to question his loyalty to the United States.
