I have a question I worked for 6 years in US paid all the taxes ss and so on, I heard it is possible to cash them ? is that true? I am not a US citizen nor the green card holder I am moving now from US and most likely never come back due to economy and my immigration status being only working visa.
Thanks for any advice

Are you asking if you are entitled to a refund? Answer: probably not.

You may be able to apply for US social security when you become eligible. There are Americans and Canadians who are receiving benefits from both countries, based on earnings in both countries, provided their earnings were during the period of eligibility.

In order to receive social security benefits, you do not need to be a citizen nor a resident of the USA. You only need to have contribution credits to social security. When you retire at age 65, file your claim for US social security.

Americans who contribute to SS and die before they are eligible for benefits, also get "ripped off", and their contributions were in vain.

If you filed an income tax return for the years you were in the US, then you will have paid the correct amount of taxes, and received the benefits of being in USA. If you did not file tax returns, you can do that now, and claim a refund on any withheld taxes and SS payments that were above your proper assessment.

Many countries have agreements with the US to get credit with their own social security systems for taxes paid to the US. (I don't know if the US gives the money to the other country or not)

Working 6 years would not be enough to get SS benefits, one must work at least 10 years to get SS benefits.

Your country most likely would not refund them to a US citizen working there either. It works both ways, and anyway US taxes are pretty low compared to most developed countries.

Actually, if you haven't yet filed returns and are due a refund, you have to file for the refund within 3 years of the original deadline for the tax return for that year, otherwise the refunds go bye-bye. So, it's too late to claim a refund for taxes overpaid in 2006 and earlier years.

OP: check to see if your home country has a totalization agreement with the US:

You had the opportunity to live in this country and use all the benefits our governments (local, state, and federal) provide, like safety, roads, police protection, a stable currency, parks, a literate population, etc. Ripped off? Have a good trip home.
