Not there yet, but I will say once you come up with a system of making real money it comes in quick. We rented for many years building no equity, finally purchased a home and in less than 5 years our equity in that alone went up $150k. Wife got promoted with a nice raise, we purchased a high cashflowing investment property. I took a new job with higher pay, better 401k match and ESPP. In just 5 years we went from a net worth of almost nothing to probably half a million by just making a little extra money, living below our means and investing in real estate. Should hit the first million by age 40. No way I could have done it without my wife.
Got there (as a couple) around age 39, then the net worth bounced around as the markets changed and we hit $2M again several times after that
I'm 44 now and nipping at $3M as a couple, may already be there as the net worth bounces around but not solidly there yet. We got there with two decent incomes but I think most importantly early savings/risk taking with stocks and real estate. Started in real estate at age 21 and stocks before that. I've sorta taken Warren Buffets advice to be "greedy when others are scared" and it has paid off. I have always had a very large risk tolerance and so far it has worked in our favor.
I'm surprised people are admitting this. My goal is/was $3M to live comfortably in retirement.
I'm not sure the descriptive word is "admitting".
