How is Philadelphia in 2013? What is the good and the bad of this city? I only been to Philly like 3 times and that was when I was very young so what anemities and cultural offerings and how vibrant is this city now?

There will be a lot of different opinions and it would be hard to go into detail without writing a short story, so here an abridged version.

PROS:
Much of the city is very walkable. The closer one lives to Center City, the less one needs a car. The arts, nightlife and sports scenes hold their own against any major city.

The neighborhoods of Center City are thriving, to the point that surrounding neighborhoods have gentrified or otherwise improved.

Compared to other larger Northeastern cities, Philly is a great value in general.

CONS:

The Philadelphia School District is in crisis.

The city can't/won't collect on long overdue property taxes that could benefit the schools not to mention the general fund.

While the city continues a slow but steady reduction in its wage tax, it offers (or is forced *cough*Comcast*cough*) targeted tax incentives or concessions to selected employers to relocate to or stay in the city.

Just out of curiosity: Why do you ask?

Curious, isn't it, how all three are inter-related ...

The city can be amazing and fun and interesting and beautiful. There's a lot to like about living here. However, it's run by a toxic combination of idiots and weaklings with a strong dose of corruption thrown into the mix. Many of the things wrong are correctable if only the right people ran the show.

Philly is fun when you are young but when you grow older and raise a family and need a clean, safe place to raise your family with good schools it time to move it.

So if you are young, move there and have fun!
