Okay so me and my friends went to New York, and in the car ride back they started talking trash about how much they hate Philly. They claimed that compared to New York Philly was really "boring" and that our city isn't known for anything but "cheesesteaks and cream cheese". They even went so far as to say that all of our sports teams are complete trash and that we're not anything compared to New York because they have "2 sports teams for football and baseball".

I told them that our city is well known for it's beautiful neighborhoods, rich history, food, and culture. But they countered that New York has way more of that compared to Philadelphia and that the government might as well just blow up the state of Pennsylvania because we have nothing on the great state of New York.

They said New York has the nickname "The Big Apple" and all we have is "Philly" and "Killadelphia"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously I don't bother to talk to this friend anymore .

Well yeah, Philadelphia is not as great a city as New York, and very few if any cities in the world are. New York is just so massive and diverse that only a very few cities can even dream of competing at it's level. The only thing Philadelphia does better than New York is cost of living, which is significantly lower in Philly. But just because you aren't as good as #1 doesn't mean you suck. Philadelphia is still in a top level tier of cities, which makes it one of the world's best cities, but it is far from New York's position as #1.

Though your friend is right, Philly sports teams do suck and their fans are trashy.

It's not possible to be a new yorker and not trash everywhere else and maintain sanity. Otherwise they'd have to admit they are over paying and move out

The City of Brotherly Love? Before you say that Philadelphians don't use it, New Yorkers don't say "the Big Apple" either.

How are you going to compare a city of 1.4 million people and 135 square miles to a city of 8 Million people and
469 square miles?

did anyone else think that PR slogan from the early '00s for the 4th of july celebrations : 'Philadelphia: the city that loves you back...and fourth' was... "a little odd"?

right up there with 'SEPTA: We're getting there'.
