What is the order like of passionate fans? As an NYer I have always thought it goes like

1. Tie between Flyers and Eagles
2. Phils
3. College basketball (various teams)
4. Sixers
5. Union

Is this accurate?

I would probably rank it more like:

1. Eagles
2. Phils/Flyers
3.College basketball/Sixers

I think the Eagles are a league in their own.

I'm not sure if what my husband and I watch reflects the general public, or not. I only know two families that watch the Flyers (I've never seen a whole game) and we tend to watch College basketball over pro. Our list would be:

Eagles
College Football
Phillies
Golf
College Basketball

Are the Union even on the radar?

They're more popular than the Sixers right now.

You could probably make an argument that some of the lower tier CBB teams (Temple, La Salle, St. Joes) have better support than the Sixers

Here's how I would rank...

1. EAGLES
2. EAGLES
3. EAGLES
4. Phillies
5. College basketball (if a Big Five team is ranked and progressing through season/tourney)
6. Flyers
7. Sixers
8. College basketball (if no local team is in tourney)
9. College football (but solely due to the influx of PSU grads in the area).
10. Union
11. Soul
12. Wings

^^Eh, I'd put the Flyers above the Phillies. The Phillies haven't been competitive in quite a while, and I don't expect them to be this year. Nostalgia for '08 notwithstanding, I think the Flyers have always aroused more passion than the Phils. MLB is more popular than NHL so I can see the argument, but I think Penguins vs. Flyers is way more intense than Mets vs. Phillies. I'd rack and stack them like this:

1. Eagles
2. Flyers
3. Phillies
4. 76ers
5. Union

College basketball would be somewhere between Phillies and 76ers, and for college football, Temple had a pretty decent year last year, so that stock is rising, too.

Why are all you guys interpreting "support" to mean "following them only if they're doing well?"

The Sixers suck now, but does that mean we don't support them? Sure the flyers are very competitive now, but I don't think hockey gets more support in philly than basketball. The Sixers at their best blow away the flyers at their best.

The Eagles are king. No doubt about it.

College football gets no support in philly. How can it, since there are no teams of any substance within 100 miles. Penn State? Really? Univ of Maryland is closer to Philly than psu is.

I just watch the Phillies. I'm not interested in any other sports. Period.
